Last year I was introduced to a little town called Highlands. I simply fell in love. To the point where I occasionally google houses for sale and day dream about owning my own little mountain get-a-way. In the past six months I have probably been to Highlands 10-15 times, and each time my car huffs and puffs up there.. my heart just fills with joy.
There’s something about the mountains that just fixes everything.
I’m looking forward to the Highlands Food & Wine Festival this year for several reasons.
Obviously, delicious food. This year’s Festival will highlight local culinary talent Chef Wolfgang Green of Wolfgangs Restaurant, Chef Adam Bresnahan of the Ugly Dog Pub, Chef Chris Huerta of Madison’s Restaurant and Wine Bistro, Chef Adam Hayes of Canyon Kitchen and Chef Johannes Klapdohr of Library Kitchen + Bar, just to name a few. This year’s line-up of visiting chefs include James Beard Foundation Nominees and Recipients, Steven Satterfield of Miller Union, Elliot Moss of Buxton Hall BBQ and Meherwan Irani of Chai Pani.
Insanely cool venues. This year’s event programming includes a Grand Tasting at Kelsey-Hutchinson Park, Truckin’ at Old Creek Circle, The Main Event on Main Street and the Gospel Brunch at Piermont Cottage on South Street. Award Winning musical acts include JJ Grey & Mofro, a rock and blues jam band from Jacksonville, Florida headlining The Main Event on November 10th and world renown gospel group, Joyful, who will perform at Gospel Brunch on Sunday, November 12th, along with singer/songwriter Liz Vice. Participants can look forward to the announcement of additional talent, events and “Small Bite” experiences as they further develop.
Tickets to the Highlands Food and Wine Festival go on sale starting May 1st at 12:00 PM, and can be purchased online at http://www.highlandsfoodandwine.com. The festival will occur November 9th-12th, 2017 in Highlands, NC showcasing the beauty and culinary creativity of the Highlands Plateau and is presented by the Highlands Chamber of Commerce. Confirmed overall Festival Partners of the Highlands Food and Wine Festival include Highlands Chamber of Commerce, SYSCO, Old Edwards Inn & Spa, FIJI Water, ZeroHero and The Laurel Magazine.
Obviously- I’ll be at the Festival. Last year I gained 7 pounds that week. Going for 10 this year. Food. Makes. Me. Happy!
